Thankful Thursday – Mothers….and others!

TTButton

Today I would like to give thanks for moms...especially the one God gave me.

Growing up with the best mother ever, I was amazed to learn that all mothers were not as sweet and loving as mine...

While I experience unconditional love, continuous encouragement, and unfailing support from my mother...there are those who do not...

When I cherish loving embraces and sweet kisses...some can not...

As I remember tear stained checks wiped dry by her hand and a fevered brow gently touched by a cool palm...everyone does not have such memories...

A Godly mother shares so many attributes of Christ.

And our Heavenly Father so desires us to catch even a glimpse of this amazing love...that He displays it through the heart and life of a Mother...or Grandmother...or Aunt or Sister...

OR

a special someone, who crosses our path...not by a haphazard coincidence...but by God’s divine plan...

This someone touches our life in ways we don’t even comprehend...

But we know they are special

and

saturated with

something/Someone

we desperately

NEED...

So in honor of our mothers and the ones blessed with a mother’s heart...

You wrote no lofty poems
that critics counted art.
But with a nobler vision
you lived them in your heart.

You carved no shapeless marble
to some high soul design.
But with a finer sculpture
you shaped this soul of mine.

You built no great cathedrals
that centuries applaud:
but with a grace exquisite
your life cathedraled God.

- Thomas Fessenden, excerpt from Quiet Reflections: A Mother's Journal.

Beautiful post as usual.. As I sit here drinking my coffee and starting my day taking care of my mom I am moved with so much compassion for her. She had a TERRIBLE life... Terrible father and I hate to say this but a terrible husband. She kept her smile through it all and even now as her mind is somewhere else she always has a big smile for me when I walk in.. She has such a reward waiting for her...... She did not have much in this life but she gave more than anyone except the Father God will know......

Blessings to you today, Loved this post-how incredible to have such a loving mother. I was one who did not but I am thankful that my relationship with my own mother shaped me into the mother and grandmother I am today-I cherish this role the Lord gave me and I'm thankful for those women who did take time to nurture me!

Great post, Karen, and thanks for reminding us that though we might have been blessed with a godly mom, not everyone can say the same. I pray that all who did not have a godly mom will have someone minister to them with a mother's heart.

I am so thankful that the Lord has given me these past few years to draw closer to our mom, who has Alzheimers. My sister lives by her and my sister loves the Lord and is His caring hands for our mom. We both pray daily for Mom's salvation.
Thank you for this sweet post.

I think this poem was written with my mom in mind... she's my hero and very best friend. Truth be told (and really, what point is there in telling otherwise), I've had a lot of "mothering" influences over the years. I'll gladly crawl up into anyone's lap to receive the gentle caress of heaven. Some women are better at it than others, but if someone's willing to love me like my momma, I'm willing to receive. How I pray to be a similar influence on the "children" God brings my way, albeit biological or otherwise.

Happy Mother's Day to you, Karen. Thank you for being my blogging friend and for joining me in the celebration of my book.

Beautiful, Karen. I am grateful to have a godly mother, but it is important to remember that there are many who haven't and/or don't have that right now. Good mothers are more than just a blessing -- they are life-givers in every way.

This is beautiful, Karen. God does bring that comfort through so many ways, even through new blogging friends.

I hope you have a lovely Mother's Day.

Karen, hope you had a wonderday moms day with family. Reading your post and the comments reminds me that you and I were very blessed by God to have moms who were the reflection of Christ. For those who had a neglected childhood, it is God's mercy and love to help them rise above it and be the beautiful sisters they are today.
