There Came a Lion

Photobucket

Several weeks ago, I read a devotional from this text that really impressed me and stuck around in my head, so I took that as a sign I need to write about it. The portion of scripture that was referenced was "...there came a lion...". The writer spoke of opportunities to serve God often coming in disguise of danger or difficulties.

So I read a little about lions...

  • They are known as the kings of the jungle

  • They usually live in groups as opposed to being loners

  • They are nocturnal and sleep most of the day

  • They hunt in groups for larger prey

  • And one interesting point...the mane of the male is an intimidation factor since it makes the lion appear larger than he really is

Then came a lion...

Well, I have had lions come before...

Regrets...depression...family problems...financial setbacks...health issues...job concerns...doubts...

  • These lions usually come in groups or one right after the other so they are more difficult to handle...

  • They come when the way seems dark and lonely...not in the daytime when the sun is shining brightly...

  • They try to fill my mind with worrisome thoughts because of seemingly insurmountable odds against me...

  • They try to make me bow before the heavy load they lay on my shoulders...

  • They try to strike fear in me by intimidation of what I think is a problem too great to solve and larger than life...

But then comes...

THE LION OF JUDAH

THE LAMB OF GOD

THE HOLY ONE OF ISRAEL

THE BREAD OF LIFE

THE KING OF ALL AGES

THE I AM

And I run to my Rock....

Years ago, I heard my Grandmother sing this...

In times like these you need a Savior
In times like these you need an anchor;
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

Chorus
This Rock is Jesus, Yes, He's the One;
This Rock is Jesus, the only One!
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

In times like these you need the Bible,
In times like these O be not idle;
Be very sure, be very sure
Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

In times like these I have a Savior,
In times like these I have an anchor;
I'm very sure, I'm very sure
My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

words and music by Ruth Caye Jones

Lions will come, but isn't it good to know we are not alone...and if we keep our eyes on the Saviour, blessings will come from adversities.

What lions have come around you and what did you do to defeat them?

Karen, what an awesome post! It really touched my soul. Yes, I have had my share of lions, even in packs, as you describe. But, praise God, He does deliver His children! Amen!

I'm beginning to think we were raised up on the same songs. I well remember "In Times Like These." My parents used to have a record of a church choir that sang it. I still know the words. It's powerful, isn't it?

God bless you mightily!

In answer to your question...
When the lions were very thick, I cried out in prayer. And I prayed and prayed until I gathered enough faith to thank God for his answer (before it happened) and proclaimed that God is more powerful than any problem(lion) I am facing---and will bring good out of a discouraging circumstance.

Then I began to proceed with my day, and it was necessary to continue to remind myself of these things.

On that day, the lion gradually faded into the background.

Karen,
I haven't commented on here lately, but I have been reading. I just wanted to say thank you, again. You always write what I need to "hear".
Lions of trouble do seem to come in packs, and it sure is annoying, but the nice thing is that we, as Christians, have support in each other. We are a really big "pack" too. That helps me face the lions!
