No green peeks from amongst the stubby nails or the wrinkled knuckles. And although I love things that are green - lush and productive plants are never a guarantee in my yard.
Except for one...
The ferns...
Inherited years ago from my green-thumbed mother-in-law, ferns and their proper care are the only assurances I seem to carry over from year to year...
She told me...”Plenty of shade...fertilize twice a month...and water every day until it drips out the bottom”...
Simple...
Basic...
Easy care...
So each summer morning, I step onto my front porch and begin the ritual.
What is interesting, is that some days, each fern drinks in about the same amount of water...while other times, #1 will gulp down 24 sips, while #3 will only sip 5 or 6...but they are always supplied the right amount to meet their needs to the point of overflowing...
What is your watering schedule?
If you are like me, some days you need a massive amount of the Word to quench your thirst...then pour on some good music that sets your heart singing to Him...read a few devotionals...and the water starts to drip...
Other days, a single scripture starts the rush...a chorus from a hymn from days gone by plays in your head and the waters rise...and one touch from Him...floats you down that river...
What is your watering schedule?
The Living Water is always there...poised and ready...to make you flourish...
So drink deeply , my friends...
Anyone who believes in Memay come and drink! For the Scriptures declare,‘Rivers of living waterwill flow from his heart.’

A beautiful analogy Karen. Hope your Tuesday is a great day!
Tuesday blessings Karen, I know it's been awhile since I left you a "hello" but I always try to read you. So I absolutely love this post and your analogy-so pertinent to each of us. Yes we need the Living Water to flow over us each day. Big hugs to you today.

I need His Living Water to

Awesome post!
Blessings and prayers,

This is great analogy. So true. Lately I have been feeling a bit dry so I guess I need more water. :)
Blessings,
Tammy
Ohhh WOW Karen...what a beautiful analogy and flourishing fern (both the plant and YOU)!!!
I did not notice if anyone is answering about their watering schedule...hmmmm. Convicting!
I am drenched with water right now but have been very dried out (not enough shade, sure thankful for my roots)even with a little Living Water in the morning! Some days, I get my daily dose and just can't stop reading and then there's the bad days when I'm fortunate to get a sprinkle of a verse. But it sure makes a difference in my day! Personally I don't drink enough water and need to improve. I do like that second option given.
You have such a special gift of watering me also.
I'm going to go DRINK DEEPLY and soak my roots and let that river flow all over me and then through me! I pondered on this much of the day. I really like how the NLT shares this. I especially like how you give such tender, proper care.
Your brown thumb looks mighty green or golden to me!!! Beautiful, Karen! I'm blessed & refreshed now I have to go read 3 chapters in Jeremiah because tomorrow I start Lamentations! ohhh my... thanks!
Love & hugs,
Peggy
Karen,
This may be my favorite of all your posts. I loved your idea here and furthermore would love to be a fern on your porch!
I have been thinking a lot about deserts yesterday and today. Sometimes our thirst results from following him to those desert places only to learn how sweet his drink is. What a comfort to know that even our needs can bring him glory.
Blessings,
Judith
Karen, I love this! I've always like ferns but couldn't keep them from turning to crisp on my front porch. Just like your ferns that are some days that I make the time to REALLY soak in His presence and drink His Word in. At other times, I just get in a drop or two.
I love this analogy! I think God always allows enough time to be with Him each day depending on our "watering" needs!
Hi Karen,
Like you, I've come to realize that each moment I experience the fellowship and presence of God in my life is unique. Some days, I am filled with exuberant joy and I want to dance like David danced, some days I'll read as though I can't stop and at other times it may be just a single thought from a scripture. I appreciate each one.
Blessings and peace.

Karen, you have a wonderful way of creating word pictures to illustrate THE Word, and I love this one. How I thirst for His living water!
Karen, this is such a powerful analogy! I love how you write!
I am a brown thumb also, but love lots of potted plants and greenery.
I am in need of a drenching. It's coming... I just know it is.
His water never stops flowing, but we have to make the effort to drink it.
I'm terrible with most plants - ferns I'm even worse with. I keep forgetting to water them. Um ah.
Blessings,
Lyn
Love the analogy. We need the Living Water each and every day. And yes, He knows how much it takes to quench our thrist.
Blessings,
Joan
I always think of my comment before I read the others, and of course the thought of how it is a great analogy came to mind!
Your fern is so lush and beautiful.
Hugs - Jan
Enjoyed this post sis.
I loved the fern post. The picture of the fern makes me feel relaxed...and I am reminded of Hawaii!
I need to drink more of the Word...and keep my soil moist.
Once again ...awesome wisdom...
