And I Weep...and Thank the Lord

A gallon of gas was about $1.10 and Stevie Wonder sang, “I Just Called to Say I Love You”...

1984

That Saturday morning in 1984, mid January...cold and dark...you announce your plans for the day in a gush of womb water...

You make us wait...but definitely not for the last time...as your grand entrance begins later that afternoon...

dig

Saturday’s child...already working hard for a living...as the doctor cracks your collarbone while you struggle to greet the world...

Hours later the nurse lays you in my arms with a cotton sling around your arm so tiny.

I weep at the harshness of life...

And thank the Lord for His blessing of a second son.

We bond immediately...

Ayla's Rake

Between about the 4th and 7th weeks of your life, we spend time during the 3 am feeding pondering the top pop songs of the early 80’s...limited cable access gives a choice between old westerns, infomercials, and music videos...my choice of MTV ultimately leads to your distaste of pop music to this day...

Years pass...

Baby arms stretched upward are exchanged for legs strong that race with boyish energy...

run-3

And I weep at the quickness of life...

And thank the Lord for His blessing of each moment.

Your independence and analytical thinking constantly amaze us...fair play and equality are burning issues with you from the start...

Legs that run are replaced by a soul that wanders...

And I weep at the lost roads of life...

And thank the Lord for His second...

and fifty second chances...

A bearded face still holds the toddler boy’s blue eyes...cerulean...matched only by the eyes of your daughters...whose little arms stretch upwards to their daddy...

And I weep at the circle of life...

And thank the Lord for it...

And for you, my son...

I love you,

Mom

I know what I'm doing.

I have it all planned out—

plans to take care of you,

not abandon you,

plans to give you the future

you hope for.

As a mother of two sons I do

Oh, Karen - just so precious. I am crying...

As I am also the mother of two sons, this was so touching. My oldest is going to be 28 in just a few short days. I can't believe how the time has gone by so fast.

Your son's eyes are soft, Karen - kind and caring.

Happy Birthday to him.

GOD BLESS!

Blessings Karen... and is this a happy birthday day to your son??? because I have never been more moved by the beautiful words of a loving mother even through the pain and ouch! of his birth! Wonderful tribute and profound words of the circle!
Beautiful BLUE eyes! Each photo so precious!

Thank Our Lord with you for sons and grandchildren to walk in faith.
Thankful also for the second and zillioneth time! The music of the 80s was not that bad! 70s was better... your second is 5 yrs. younger than both of our adopteds.
Thankful for the love and the weeping which keeps our hearts tender towards them, and the promise of Jeremiah 29 that returns each wanderer and runner to Jesus for completing that final race!

Praying and believing for our children and our children's children! With love, peace and JOY,
Peggy

I love this tender tribute to your son; as my oldest readies himself to graduate from college, I, too, think about the passage of time and how quickly he has grown into a man.

Good and sweet and painful, all in the same breath. I celebrate his life in this season, as I do my own; grateful living... how better can we live?!

peace to you this day~elaine
