The Best Thing in the World

Just a few months after the world was introduced to a galaxy far, far, away and Elvis sang “Hound Dog” for the last time,

I heard your voice say, I do
and watched your dimples imply that being a husband was the
best thing in the world.

Three years later...

I heard your voice shout I have a son!”
and watched your strong arms hold him ever so gently and show that being a dad was the
best thing in the world.

Fast forward 25 years later and...

I heard your voice declare, I have a granddaughter!
and watched your blue eyes hint that she had already stolen your heart and that being a Papa was the
best thing in the world.

For many years I have heard and watched...

I heard your regrets over missing out on so many events while our children were young, while I watched you work so very hard and do anything necessary to make sure we always had what we needed...

I heard your complaints (and your laughter) about your brothers and their antics, and I watched your heart break when they were taken so soon...

I heard your frustrations voiced every day because of a body that just wouldn’t do what you wanted it to do, as I watched the effects of years of hard work and crippling arthritis take their toll..

I heard your cries of pain in the night and watched our snowy white little girl climb up and rest her paws on your chest and stare at your face until you said that you were okay.

For 36 years I have heard and watched.

And today, my love,

I hear

two hearts in rhythm

and I watch

a lifetime of love grow deeper and sweeter than mere words can describe.

You are the best thing in my world!

This is such a touching tribute to the man you married, Karen, and to the marriage that has held you together as God intended for the two of you. My eyes welled up as I read this, and I felt blessed to have read it. Happy Anniversary (belated) to you both and may the Lord bless you with many more.

Love the Ferguson quote - I'm going to have to write that one down!

Beautiful tribute to love, friend. I haven't been over in a long while, and I realize this post is months old. It still feels fresh and vital to me.

PS: Sent you an email earlier this morning. Would love to hear your thoughts.

WOW!!! Happy Anniversary Karen and Rick (back in 2013, and for this 2015) so that would make this year 38 years ... hallelujah! One can see why when we read such loving words of why and how this marriage lasts.
Divine! God's love surround and keep you both as He guards your heart and know that you, too, are the BEST! (I think Ricky would agree).

So your parting words from Hallelujah Anyhow as you laid down your delight for duty, left us with LOVE and a wonderful tribute to the BEST THING in the world ... very heartfelt, meaningful and touching with the precious way you word your deep love and devotion.

May God continue to give you both the GRACE and the strength to grow deeper and sweeter in this lifetime love! May you celebrate this kind of love every day especially when the day gets tough and the heartache of "watching" and "waiting" wears on ... be reminded of the BEST! always!
1 Corinthians 13 kind of LOVE is lasting! (beautiful graphics you shared)

"Two hearts in rhythm" has "Hound Dog" beat hands down as beautiful sound for lyrics of a romantic and spiritual love that holds no bounds.

Although I for some reason was not present back in 2013 and missed your closing blog posts, the ones I have read and found with "no comments" from me has me wondering why I was MIA, but the words written are as lasting as the day you published them and I can only pray that as you revisit your own writings, you may see what a gift you are and have. Journal and save all you can for "growing old together" as you tend to take care of being "sandwiched" between generations, you have upheld with admirable faith and a valiant heart filled with so much love, may it be returned in a double portion as God hears and answers your heartfelt prayers and desires in your life. So glad I came to visit your blog and you left it standing ... with such profound LOVE and words!

This is remarkable encouragement for me and what may come to be! Thank you for ending your time as you stepped away for awhile with such a beautiful example of the woman of God you are and your roots and wings of love. A sweet fragrance of God's love ... to those who have the privilege to read or know you. I'm so blessed!

Love and best wishes,
Peggy
