Waves of Rest

"We should never attempt to bear
more than one kind of trouble at once.
Some people bear three kinds -
all they have had,
all they have now,
and all they expect to have."
— Edward Everett Hale

No matter the burden..
“Come to Me,
all who are weary and heavily burdened
[by religious rituals that provide no peace],
and I will give you rest
[refreshing your souls with salvation].
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me
[following Me as My disciple],
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest
(renewal, blessed quiet)
for your souls.
For My yoke is easy
[to bear]
and My burden is light.”
No matter the weariness..
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion?
Come to me.
Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.
I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me
and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
No matter the weight of the load..
"Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Put My yoke upon your shoulders —
it might appear heavy at first,
but it is perfectly fitted to your curves.
Learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble of heart.
When you are yoked to Me,
your weary souls will find rest.
For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light."
the Lord
gives
REST..
Wade out into the waters
of blessed quiet...
walk in unforced rhythms of grace..
and find ripples of respite
flowing into waves of rest
as far as your eyes can see.

Amen! Love this Karen! I have always loved the Message's version of Matthew 11:28-30. Thanks for sharing the poem and other versions as well.

I think now more than ever we need some rest.

This post is just what I needed and is what I am doing this morning, Karen. I found myself with a morning to myself, which is rare, and I have uninterrupted rest in the Lord. I have been feeding on His word, bowing in prayer, and enjoying time in a study I am doing. He has given me rest. Thank you, dear Karen, for your affirming post!
