Another GRAND Mother

I was given a treasure that I did not deserve. This treasure was taken for granted for so many years before it's true worth was finally realized. Now its value increases with each passing day and depreciation...does not happen.

This treasure came in the form of a humble pastor's wife, who birthed my dad, and later became my Grandmother.

She was:

A sweet and gentle lady in all respects who loved the Lord...

A Sunday School teacher who stayed on her knees praying for her students...

A church pianist who sang with my Granddaddy...

A fantastic cook that made the very best dressing and red velvet cake in the world...

A lover of unique toys, gadgets, and doodads who always had something special to share with her four granddaughters...

A Proverbs 31 woman who sacrificed and worked to take care of her family and the family of God...

Grandmother always wore a hat and crisp white gloves to church because she believed in honoring the Lord with her very best. Quietly sitting at the end of the pew, she often worshiped the Lord with her tears and tender heart.

When we would spend the night at her house, no matter how early we woke up, Grandmother was already busy in the kitchen preparing a hot breakfast. The many parsonages she and Granddaddy lived in were always immaculate, although I never remember seeing her cleaning while we were visiting. I believe she showed the best combination of Mary and Martha that all of us try to achieve.

Some of my best memories are of Grandmother getting "tickled" at something and trying to hold in her laughter. She was very soft spoken and quiet mannered...her son is not. Pair my dad and his daddy and sometimes a few others and the sarcasm and joking would bounce off the ceiling. Grandmother would turn her head and place her hand over her mouth...her eyes would close and her shoulders would start to shake...before long, tears would be in the corner of her eyes and little muffled noises would be heard. She was so much fun...

She went to be with the Lord two days before her birthday and her body was laid to rest on her birthday. Always faithful, exceedingly patient, ever loving....

So once again I thank God for His blessing of another precious treasure...my little Grandmother!

That is very nice to read...I wish I could remember her, but I don't know if I ever met her, and I wish that I did remember! She looked so elegant in that hat and gloves!

I was honored with a Grandmother as that as well.......... Now that I am older, I wish that I had known what a treasure she was and had spent much more time with her....... For too many years I was a restless spirit but she was always my anchor.. I miss her, I look forward to seeing her again..........

Thanks for sharing
