The Waiting Game

She leaves the doctor’s office after confirmation of what she has already guessed...new life...such a rush of emotions...and she learns to wait...

DOCTOR

She rubs her finger along the swollen gums so tiny...sleepless nights are her portion...how she wishes she could take the pain away...but all she can do is...wait...

teething

She stretches out arms eager to welcome the first steps of baby feet so sweet...uncertain eyes meet hers...encouragement calls as the diapered bottom falls...so she sighs...and waits...

baby steps

She watches the years fly by...first day of school...field trips...projects...recitals...dates...proms...graduation... from one passage to another...she learns to patiently...wait...

IMG_3055

She sees the sparkles...one on her ring finger and one in each joy filled eye...her babe is leaving the nest...an ache of emptiness lies deep in the recess of her heart...she has known this day would eventually come...so she prepares to once again...wait...

watch

She closes her Bible as she takes her glasses and lays them beside the journal...eyes tired, she rubs them wearily, as hot tears threaten to trickle down wrinkled cheeks...her child’s steps wander down strange paths that end in darkness...

Her prayers reach the ears of God...

He whispers...

Trust Me...

Just as I have waited for you...

So I will wait with you...

So she waits...and abides...with Him...

So trust in the Lord (commit yourself to Him, lean on Him, hope confidently in Him) forever; for the Lord God is an everlasting Rock [the Rock of Ages].

Isaiah 26:4 AMP

A beautiful post. I just came from reading my sister's (Karen) blog about the importance of praying for children and grandchildren.

Very descriptive phrases that makes me SEE the situation. I thought it was very poignant and sufficiently described the feeling without getting mushy or too wordy. You do good work, I am proud of you, my friend.

Beautiful imagery! It reminds me of our first night of Advent...waiting for the hope and promise.

Beautiful, Karen! What a surprise to move from one event to the next. The joy of a new baby, to the heartache of an empty nest. But...God will start all over again with grandbabies!!!

I hope you have a joyful Christmas...

Hi Karen,

Though I will never know the steps of a mother, I have walked with one for years; learning the lessons of patience and waiting.

When the first of our five left home (enlisting in the Navy), I learned the anguish of a father. It was then I learned to meaning behind the words of John the Baptist: "He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30, NIV)

Thank you for sharing these touching words.

Blessings and peace.

How very beautiful, Karen.

My husband (second) never had children. Just today at lunch I was trying (again) to tell him how a mother feels about her children. That no matter how old they get, they are still her babies. He understands that he'll never understand...

Once a mother, always a mother.

And sometimes the comfort for that particular "mother heartache" is found ONLY in the arms of God. He knows what laying down a child feels like.

Trust...wait...I'm here -

Abiding is something different from waiting - it is something more.

GOD BLESS!

Sweet blessings Karen, And so is each and every descriptive word from your mother's heart and pen!

Beautiful Christmas decor and "O Come, O come Emmanuel" calling us to wait as well.

Let us lean, let us trust, let us wait with Him as He has waited many times for us and with us! A truly beautiful way to capsulize all of one's seasons and reasons to TRUST in the Lord and wait! As always you touch my heart, move my spirit and lead me to the Rock! Thanks friend and precious sister!

Peace and grace,
Peggy
(I've had computer problems and so much more since I got up this morning~restless night but still found time and so thankful when there's no internet, I have peace for the journey) Bless you...anyone hear from Denise yet?

Beautiful! You've captured all the stages of being a mother. I'm so glad the Lord will wait with us each step of the way.

I also love the scripture you shared. I'm going to use it for our prayer line recording tonight at our church.
