Where Do You Hang Your Hat?

It’s made of oak, with a lightly colored marble slab in front of the mirror...

Two hooks are on each side of the mirror...poised and ready for hats, scarves, and gloves...

Years ago, this lovely hall tree greeted visitors as they entered the foyer of my grandparents' home...a ceramic bowl and pitcher sat on the marble shelf...books and what-not’s graced the lower wooden one...and my Poppie’s hats hung on at least two of the hooks...

When Monie and Poppie went to live in their new heavenly home, the hall tree came to live in mine.

Now, another hat rests on the top right hook...coffee colored...brim formed just so...a precious keepsake from another grandparent...

Where do you hang your hat?

There is an old saying...

You can hang your hat on it!

This means “You can depend on it!” or “You can believe in that”.

Where do you hang your hat?

Man-made hooks break...and anything hung on them will eventually slide off...

So if you value your hat...hang it on the precious crook of the cross...

cross-1

Your hat will be safe...and the only person that can take it off is you...

hat

There is another old saying I like:

Home is Where You Hang Your Hat

Where do you hang your hat?

Hang your hat on Jesus Christ...

Hang your heart on Him...

Just

Hang on...

There is no place like home...

Very nostalgic post! Don't know folks who wear hats nowadays. Hubby has never worn one. Dad and grandpa used to wear hats! But we all do trust Jesus to keep us covered and sheltered under His almighty arm!

This was very sweet, Karen. Such a touching remembrance of your grandparents. I hang my hats on an antique hat stand. It's wood, and has brass hooks at the top. I love it.

But, the "hat of my heart" hangs only in ONE place. The crook of that old rugged cross.

Someday, I'm going to exchange this old, tattered hat for a crown!

GOD BLESS!

This is a precious post. I remember our grandparents' hall tree and I also remember an overflowing hat rack in the hallway at church, back when ALL the men wore hats.

Great Post Karen, thank you for sharing it. The words are so true and apt. I dont often wear a hat, but in my heart I have one on the cross and know my eternal home is with Jesus in eternity, Hallelujah- Nita.

Karen, this was great! I love seeing how the Holy Spirit gives such unique messages to different people. We have such a creative God who has made such creative people!

I don't wear hats, but if I did, it would rest on the cross!

Blessings my gifted sister Karen,

How I'd like to hang my hat next to yours!

What an absolutely heartfelt tribute throughout and also the other links to Monie and Poppie and wasn't there another "granddaddy"... well, I have to return to each of them anyways and leave a comment on such cherishable words. You tenderly express your admiration for your roots and wings. Such a rich heritage! You must be the keeper of the memories and the treasurer of the photos!
What beautiful memories and words!
(I'd loved your mom's to you on one also but I'll save that for there).

You certainly know how to honor your beautiful family and Our Lord with your endearing words! I love the wood...and the hat and the expressions!

Hanging my hat on the precious "crook of the cross" and my heart right next to my thoughts of an eternal home. "There is no place like home..." with Him!!! Holding on or hanging on... thank you for this blessing and part of your heart and memories!!!(sniff) (sigh)

Love & peace,
Peggy

Hi Karen,

Thank you for sharing a heartfelt post. I am learning each day to hang my hat (a metaphor for my life) on Jesus; that I might me consumed with a passion that lives each moment as if he delivered it to me. Grace does much more abound.

Blessings and peace.

Hello Karen.. I am always blessed to come here and stay a while. I love the picture of the hat and the story about your grandparents..

My little grandmother wore one of those little prairie hats that tied under her chin..... I wish I knew what happened to that...

I love hats and wear them a lot , so did my precious mom... I kept all her hats and maybe one day I will share pictures of them....

Have a blessed Sunday my friend...
