The Lord is My Shepherd - TSMSS

When I asked my Granddaddy if he had a favorite song, the very first one he mentioned is the one that is being shared today. When my Grandmother was bedridden before she died, my Granddaddy was a loving and unselfish caregiver that devoted every minute of every day to taking care of her. He sang this song many times while he was watching over her and tending to her every need. Sometimes when he was just walking through the house, Granddaddy would sing.

A doctor once told Granddaddy several years ago that his voice box was just "worn out". He had preached for years, sung to the Lord, and praised His name. Because his voice would weaken easily, he had to stop singing aloud but would still hear the melodies in his head and feel the words within his heart. So in memory of my Granddaddy's 94th birthday that would have been this Tuesday, March 31st, please reflect on the words to "The Lord is My Shepherd".

The Lord is My Shepherd

by Ardon A. Hollis

I wandered alone down sin's lonesome valley,

Till I heard a sweet voice, saying sinner come home;

I heeded the call, came to Him and repented,

I am happy today, for I'm one of His own.

A pilgrim down here tho footsore and weary,

I will never turn back till the setting of sun;

Some wonderful day in that beautiful city,

All my traveling days on this earth will be run.

Refrain:

The Lord is my Shepherd,

And I shall not want,

In pastures so green,

He maketh me lie;

Beside the still waters,

He restoreth my soul,

Oh glory to God,

I am free and made whole.

Happy Birthday in heaven, Granddaddy! I know this will be your grandest one yet!

Thank you for reminding me of this song. Believe it or not, my family used to go to campmeeting when I was a little girl, and the choir always sang it. I always loved it. The altos would echo the words so beautifully. Oh, it brings back memories. The way your grandfather cared for your grandmother is so precious. Many blessings to you.

That is very sweet. What an example your Granddaddy was! I don't know that song either. I have written some music to the 23rd psalm.

It was my grandmother that would sing through out the house. Angel Band was her song. Thank you for sharing and for reminding me of her singing. She would have been in her 90's too.

At my blog, I shared some memories of my grandmother, still living, after I visited with her this week.

One of my favorite Psalms, especially during times of stress or anxiety. I always enjoy hearing of songs based on this Psalm.

Again, your blog was a blessing to me today. I love love love hearing about your Granddaddy...and how wonderful that you are making sure his testimony continues to reach out after he is gone. What a true testiment to his passion and dedication to Jesus, as well as his character and influence on those he loved.
