During the month of March for TSMSS, I have decided to share some special songs in honor of my Granddaddy who went home to be with his Good Shepherd last year. He would have celebrated his 94th birthday on March 31st. In December of 2007, I had the privilege and honor to record Granddaddy reminiscing about some of his childhood, early married life, and his years as a pastor in the Church of God. This video was later transcribed and made into books that were given to each family member. Precious memories...
During this recording, one of the questions Granddaddy answered was "Do you have a favorite song?" He named over several hymns and then laughed and said, " I guess the one I'd be thinking about at the time would be the most favorite...I guess what I'm singing is the one that's best.." So in memory of "Little Granddaddy", here is "Love Lifted Me" ... Love Lifted Me
I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore,
Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more,
But the Master of the sea heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I.
Love lifted me!
Love lifted me!
When nothing else could help,
Love lifted me!
All my heart to Him I give, ever to Him I'll cling,
In His blessed presence live, ever His praises sing,
Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul's best songs,
Faithful, loving service, too, to Him belongs.
Souls in danger, look above, Jesus completely saves,
He will lift you by His love, out of the angry waves.
He's the Master of the sea, billows His will obey,
He your Savior wants to be, be saved today.

Great song. This song brings back many memories for me...of the church I grew up in.
Have a fabulous weekend!
What a beautiful tribute to your grandfather and his memory. The song, Love Lifted Me, brings back many good memories for me. My dad was a pastor and he would always end the service with a hymn, even after the altar service. Some of those hymns have powerful words, like this one and I wish our young people knew them too.
Thank you for stopping by my blog. Your comments are always encouraging.
Love and prayers, Carolyn
Wow!
I hadn't thought about this song in YEARS!
When it started playing I SWEAR I could pick out my dad and his friend singing...and me picking it up in the chorus.
Thanks for reminding me of one of my favorite songs from my childhood.
What a precious gift! My grandfather passed away Dec 2007...the last time I saw him in the nursing home I played his two favorite hymns for him...a month later, I played those same two hymns at his funeral. It is indeed special to know what hymns were so special to them and hold that close to our hearts...thanks so much for sharing this! Such a beautiful hymn...
What beautiful lyrics and I love how you are honoring your grandfather
I remember him leading this many times, from the "green backed hymnal." He would always hold out the end....
"Looooooooooooove Lifteeeeeeeeeed Meeeeeeeeeeee." So sweet!
This takes me back a lot of years - can't sing this one without a smile on my face!

What a beautiful tribute to your granddaddy! I love this old hymn and it brings back great childhood memories of singing this in church. We don't sing many hymns anymore and I miss so many of them.
Thanks for sharing!
Happy TSMSS!

Your grandfather must have been such a wonderful person. What an awesome legacy he left you and your family! The song is beautiful - very meaningful, full of truth. God bless.
That's one of the songs we sang a lot in our country church when I was growing up. I still love it.
I sang this in my childhood with my Grandparents at church. Beautiful memories. Thank you for sharing this.
