A Mother who was Grand….

When I was a young girl, as soon as school ended and the summer officially began, my sister and I would start anticipating the day we would leave to go to Grandmother and Granddaddy's house. Days spent at their home meant:

Sleeping until we woke up...

Knowing bedtime was negotiable...

Savoring meals that would astound Paula Deen...

And listening to stories that no library books ever imagined holding...

She was called "Grandmother" for years until a young cousin came along and decided she was "Monie." She would answer to either name with a look of love that her family cherished.

Laughter was abundant in her house and hospitality would greet anyone that entered.

Grandmother was a child of God, who read her Bible daily,

Prayed immediately when a need arose,

Sang songs of praise,

And loved going to church.

As her health declined, she was unable to attend church as often as she would have liked, but we would "have church" anyway in her living room, or bedroom, or kitchen...it didn't matter. She was overflowing with the Spirit and was continually in the presence of her Saviour.

One summer when we were there with our cousins, I remember we had a Bible study time some evenings after supper. I had asked Grandmother some questions about the book of Revelation, so we started reading through it and she explained things in a way we could understand and encouraged us to ask questions.

Other times, we would sit out on the porch after the supper dishes were done and talk about anything and everything...there was never a lack of conversation...very good memories that I will treasure always. Two very special mementos that were hers are the picture I wrote about here, and this beautiful pendant watch.

One song in particular I remember her singing to me had an ending line that said:

Be very sure your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock!

So for this Mother's Day week(and always) I thank the Lord for blessing me with this wonderful GrandMOTHER who

Always clung to the Rock,

Taught her children to go to the Rock,

And is with that Rock of her salvation today!

I don't guess I ever met Monie but Corey mentions her pretty regularly remembering things...

Karen, this post is so beautiful and inspiring! Your grandmother was such a lovely woman of God, and, oh, my, what a legacy she has left you!

I leave your place so inspired to be that rock which you describe. I hope and pray to influence my own family in such a way.

Thank you for sharing your heart and the life of such a remarkable woman.

Blessings,

Andrea
